Chipmunks, Rabbits and Groundhogs! Oh, my!

As you know, I live in the country. All manner of animals make the woods and fields around my house their home. Some even make my yard (and on occasion, my house) their home.

Animals I've encountered:

In my field
  • deer
  • turkey
  • field mice
  • cattle (but my dad put them there, so I don't think they count)

In the woods
  • deer
  • turkey
  • coyote
  • squirrels
  • chipmunks
  • birds

In my yard
  • cattle (sometimes they escape, and when the ground is soft after a rain, their hooves make a terrible mess)
  • opossum
  • moles
  • shrews
  • armadillos
  • birds
And today: A groundhog!

I've never seen a groundhog around here before. I've actually only seen a very few groundhogs in our part of the Ozarks. I just couldn't believe there was one in my yard! To be quite precise, it is living under my house! I opened my curtains this morning only to see him walking on my sidewalk. I quickly grabbed my camera and got this picture (through the window, so it's not of a very high quality).

What next!?!?!

I googled "small ticks" to find out what kind of ticks I am dealing with in my house and I found your blog while researching. Also living in the country, I just had to ask you why raccoons arent on your list of animals I cant believe you have never encountered raccoons.

Oh, Sarah... Not only have I encountered raccoons, I had a big boar coon getting into my house on a regular basis to eat my cat's food a few years ago. I'm not sure how I forgot to mention that in this post. I must have blocked it from my memory! It was a two week adventure trying to get rid of him (and his mate) I actually have video footage of it while it was eating cat food in my kitchen...with ALL the lights on. I'm pretty sure there is a post about the whole incident somewhere on here. It's quite the story!

currently I have an Opossum getting into the house.
