Small Town Decisions

How you do you decide between one small town or another? What makes one small town more special than another...at least to you? Why do you chose to live or work in a particular small town? This is something I've been thinking about a lot today.

Do you pick a small town because of it's irresistible charm? What about the people in the town? Does your choice depend on how near you are to "civilization"? Maybe it's the surrounding countryside...hills, mountains, valleys, beaches, rivers, lakes, etc.

I live in between two small towns (3 really, but only two have schools, so I don't count the third). One is my hometown where I go to church, bank and I have family members living there. The other town is a little bit further from my house, and it is where I work as a teacher.

I love my job, but what makes it really specially are the people who work there and whom I work for. However, and here is why I've been pondering this question, there is a position open at my old high school for the very job I have now. So, I ask again, why work in one town over another. For me this is not an easy question. I love the people I work with, but I would love some of the opportunities I would have if I worked in my home town. Right now I'm just going to wait and see where God leads me.

I love living in a small town, although I do miss some things in the city. I am fortunate enough to be a in a good location -- I can get nearly anything I want with a 1.5 hour drive. Anything else I can get on the Internet.

It's really fun and interesting living in a small town, but I realize it's not for everyone!

Thanks for participating in Small Town Snapshot Sunday! :)
