It's Hay Season!

Hay season is now in full swing around here. Everywhere you go you will see hay fields in some state of the haying process: newly cut, teddered, raked, baled or growing for the next cutting. My parents have spent all their time the last week or so working in the hay fields...mom especially.

I love driving down the road and seeing all the fields dotted with round bales. It's such a wonderful part of summer, human ingenuity and God's creation. I just love it.

This last week it has been too hot to drive around with your windows down, but normally I love doing that when driving by fields where people are out there cutting, teddering, raking and baling the hay...the smell is WONDERFUL!!! It's the smell of summer, of the country, of my childhood bulding forts in the hay barn among the square bales.

I just wanted to share with you a small portion of the small world around me. I'm hoping to be able to get out and get pictures of the various stages of the haying process during the next cutting. If I do, I will be sure to post them with explanations of each stage.

It's been the winter wheat harvest here the last 2 weeks. Tractors, combines, trailers all over around us!

And as far as being single -- I think it's GREAT. I'm married again (for a year) and I love my hubby, but I've been single a lot in my life, and always loved it! :)

Those large round hay bales sure make for a different picture than the little rectangular bales made, evenly dotting fields as the baler dropped them in rows. I'm not far from Oz Girl and it's wheat harvest all around us.

I also agree with her on living a single life, I've not been single much of my life but there's certainly been times when I've been envious of single friends. As long as you're happy and fulfilled then people should be accepting.

I love the round bales the best. One time I was going by a field with the round bales and it was filled with these gigantic turkey vultures, but as soon as I got out of the car to get a shot they all flew away. Oh it would have been an awesome shot!

Nice shots for Small Town Snapshot Sunday!

@Oz Girl - My dad has actually been combining wheat as well. Not many people grow wheat, but my dad grows wheat and corn to feed to the cattle.

Most people don't make square bales anymore because they have to hire a crew to haul square bales, but one man and a tractor can haul round bales. However, my dad (along with a neighbor) will make just enough square bales for commission sales and their own specific needs.
